We offer a range of Free Talks for KS3 upwards which are available all year round.

  • All approximately 30 minutes
  • Free to all formal education groups
  • The first talk is free, additional talks for the same group are charged at £15 per talk.
  • Must be booked in advance
  • Recommended group size is up to 20. Why not split your class into two groups and swap activities?

Introduction to the current contemporary art exhibition

Gain a deeper insight into the temporary exhibition and discuss and ask questions about the ideas behind the art.


How do you curate an exhibition?

Discuss the organisation of the current exhibition on temporary display with a curator to understand what is involved, decisions, planning and negotiations.

 

How does a gallery decide what artworks to collect?

Through discussing the contemporary permanent displays, explore the reasons and decisions behind buying new artworks, who pays, who owns it and what conditions might affect how it is displayed? Each talk can take up to 30 minutes.


Interview a member of staff

A chance to talk to someone and find out what their job in the gallery involves, see an interview in our media section.


Back of house tours

Take a behind the scenes tour and see how the gallery operates. Explore the skills that contribute to keeping the gallery running. There are lots of jobs and skills that go to supporting the artwork on display. Create a group mind map through discussion and exploring the varied roles.

We offer Paid Workshops for Secondary KS3-5 and Colleges which are available all year round.


Immediate responses

Explore the exhibition, have a free talk from a curator, then use the education room and our materials to create your own immediate responses. £15 for room use and materials.
